What is a Military Recruiter?

The task of a military recruiter, whether for the army, the Navy, or the marines are all very similar. Recruiters generally help and guide the recruits and potential recruits through the enlistment process, until they are considered in active service.

When you first meet a recruiter, the first thing you do is to discuss the details of the enlistment with him. Ask him about life in the military, what designation or job you think you can apply for, or what specialty you want them to train you in. Ask questions if you have any. Your recruiter will very happy to answer them.

When you have decided to push through with the enlistment, you'll be asked to go through their basic screening, which is basically to see if you have the qualifications to join the military. The qualifications include your age, citizenship, dependents, single parenthood, financial obligations, educational background, drugs and alcohol count, and your medical, legal, and moral standards.

The other step you'll have to go through are further discussions of your goals and career opportunities. The recruiter will help you make an outline of any plans that might help you achieve your goals, as well as a clear path towards a possible career in the future. Of course, these are not guaranteed to work, but having a plan in itself is already a big thing.

Afterwards, the recruiter will schedule your MEPS, or military entrance processing test, as well as your ASVAB, or Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test. When you have passed this, you will either be shipped to training, or you can opt to delay it for a year to attend to personal business.

If you choose to delay your recruit training, your recruiter will assist you with the paperwork, exercise, and any other concerns you have before the recruit training. The recruiters also help your family cope with your transition into the military.
