Marines Recruiters: What They Do

US Marines recruiters, like their army counterparts, have the job of informing interested candidates about the enlistment process for the Marines, the various benefits and bonuses one can have as a member of the Marines, and tending to the candidates and their families while the candidates are transitioning into the Marines.

The candidate usually meets a recruiter for the first time when he goes to a military recruitment center for information. The candidate is usually assigned a suitable recruiter for his needs. The recruiter then gives the candidate all the information he needs to make a decision, including the possible career paths, opportunities, and requirements to enlist in the Marines.

When the candidate makes the decision to join, the recruiter then helps the candidate make an outline plan to reach his goals, usually based on his interests and experiences. The recruiter is also in charge of heloing you gather documents and the other items required when he goes through the military entry processing station.

The recruiter will also give you information about the Marines's referral program and the possible ways to utilize that to earn money while in the Delayed Entry Program, or DEP. Along that note, the recruiter is also in charge of preparing you for Recruit Training. Recruiters also help guide you while you're in the DEP.

Marines recruiters can't force the candidates to sign anything, nor can they guarantee a particular career path to come true. The also can't promise to station the candidates aboard a particular ship or base, although they can try. Most of all, they can't give the candidates short cuts in application. The candidates, in that light, also have responsibilities towards the recruiters.

Anyone interested in enlisting can access the US Marines website and use their program to match their zip code with a recruiter stationed in the area. This makes it easier to look for one, should there be no available recruitment centers in a particular state.
